What a Year that was

Well, what can I say about this year, it’s really a hectic one for me and the wife, as my two daughters were sitting for their examination of their life, the youngest was the PMR and the eldest, the SPM. The wife, most of the time, that was doing the sending and picking up of the young one from tuition classes every day from beginning of the year till her final examination the PMR. As for the elder sister, she was somewhat taken care of by the school she was at, the MRSM Langkawi but for moral support and spiritual guidance, every now and again, we visited her at Langkawi, and that's really exhausting. I don't really mind the driving to Kuala Kedah or Kuala Perlis but the ferry ride to the island that drained me out.

As for work , I have a lot of driving to do, up and down between Perak and Melaka right from the beginning of the year, this is because our project office and as most of our projects, are in Perak and my headquarter is in Melaka hence the driving up and down the country. The only rest that I got were during the school holidays, when every thing was quiet relatively. The daughters are doing their own studies and I took a few days off from work. Rest at home and did some catching up with the family.

One of my wish list for a leader

Subject: The Life of Iranian President Ahmedi Nijad'

The Fox News TV (USA) asked the Iranian President Ahmedi Nijad;

'When you look into the mirror in the morning what do you say to yourself'?

He answered: I see the person in the mirror and tell him 'Remember,
you are no more than a small servant, ahead of you today is the heavy
responsibility, and that is to serve the Iranian nation'.

Ahmedi Nijad, the Iranian President who astonished many when he first
reached to the office of the Presidency by donating all the high valued
Iranian carpets to one of the mosques in Tehran by replacing them with the
low cost ordinary carpets.

He observed that there was a huge extravagant lounge for receiving and
welcoming the VIPs and he ordered it to be closed and asked the protocol
office to arrange for an ordinary room only with the wooden chairs.

On many instances he joins the cleaning staff of the municipality
for cleaning the streets in the area where his home and the Presidency are
located.

Under his authority whenever he appoints any minister to his post he
gets a signed document from him with many points, particularly
highlighting that he shall remain poor and that his personal and his
relatives accounts will be watched and the day he leaves the ministry
shall be with dignity, and therefore it is not lawful for him or his
relatives to take any advantage of his office.

First of all he declared himself for all the 'Big' wealth and the
property he owned was a Peugeot 504 car, model 1977, an old small
house inherited from his father 40-years ago in one of the poorest
zones in Tehran. His accounts with a zero balance and the only money
comes in to his a/c was from his salary from the university as a
lecturer with an amount of US$ 250 only.

For your information the President still lives in that same house. This is
all what he owns; the president of one of the world's important countries;
strategically, economically, politically and with regard to its oil and
defence.

He even doesn't take his personal salary with the argument that all the
wealth belongs to the nation and he is the safeguard over it.

One of the things that impressed the staff at the presidency is the bag
the President brings with him every day, which contains his breakfast;
some sandwiches or bread with olive oil and cheese prepared by his
wife and eats and enjoys it with all happiness.

One of the other things he changed was his personal carrier 'the
President's Aircraft' to a cargo aircraft in order to save the
spending from the public treasury and he ordered that he will be
flying with the ordinary airline in the economy class.

He organizes meetings every now and then with all the ministers to know
their activities and efficiency and he closed down the office of the
Manager of the president and any minister can enter to his office without
any permission. He also stopped the welcome ceremonies like the red
carpet, the photo session or any personal advertisement or respect of
any kind while visiting any place in the country.

Whenever he has to stay in any of the hotels he asks them to make sure not
to give him a room with any big bed because he doesn't like to sleep on
beds but rather likes to sleep on the floor on a simple mattress with a
blanket.

The Iranian president is sleeping in the guest room of his house after
getting away from his special guards who follow him wherever he goes and
photo is taken by his small brother according to the Wifaq Newspaper which
published this photo and the next day the photo was published in most of
the world's newspapers and magazines and particularly the Americans.

During the prayer you can see that he is not sitting in the first row.

And the final photo is of his dining room where the president is busy
eating his simple meal.

Now, I wonder how much does the Prime Minister of Malaysia and his Cabinet costs Malaysia? Not counting all their ill-gotten gains through corruption and abuses of power!

A good Muslim leader leads by example.

And the Leader that we had

A Friend's of a Friend's Poem

Salam Guys. This was passed to me by an old friend of mine , I want to
share it with you lots..............especially the young ones.

When an old man died in the geriatric ward of a small hospital near
Tampa, Florida, it was believed that he had nothing left of any value.

Later, when the nurses were going through his meager possessions,
They found this poem. Its quality and content so impressed the staff
that copies were made and distributed to every nurse in the hospital.

One nurse took her copy to Missouri. The old man's sole bequest to
posterity has since appeared in the Christmas edition of the News
Magazine of the St. Louis Association for Mental Health. A slide
presentation has also been made based on his simple, but eloquent,
poem.
And this little old man, with nothing left to give to the world, is
now the author of! this " anonymous" poem winging across the Internet

Crabby Old Man

What do you see nurses? What do you see?
What are you thinking ... when you're looking at me?
A crabby old man, not very wise,
Uncertain of habit .... with faraway eyes?

Who dribbles his food ... and makes no reply.
When you say in a loud voice ... "I do wish you'd try!"
Who seems not to notice ...the things that you do.
And forever is losing ... A sock or shoe?

Who, resisting or not ... lets you do as you will,
With bathing and feeding ... The long day to fill?
Is that what you're thinking? Is that what you see?
Then open your eyes, nurse ... you're not looking at me.

I'll tell you who I am ... As I sit here so still,
As I do ! at your bidding, as I eat at your will.
I'm a small child of Ten ... with a father and mother,
Brothers and sisters ... who love one another

A young boy of Sixteen ..with wings on his feet
Dreaming that soon now ... a lover he'll meet.
A groom soon at Twenty .... my heart gives a leap.
Remembering, the vows ... that I promised to keep.

At Twenty-Five, now ... I have young of my own.
Who need me to guide. And a secure happy home.
A man of Thirty ... My young now grown fast,
Bound to each other ... With ties that should last.

At Forty, my young sons ... have grown and are gone,
But my woman's beside me ... to see I don't mourn.
At Fifty, once more, ... Babies play 'round my knee,
Again, we know children ... My loved one and me.

Dark days are upon me ... My wife is now dead.
I look at the future ...I shudder with dread.
For my young are all rearing ... young of their own.
And I think of the years ... And the love that I've known.

I'm now an old man ... and nature is cruel.
Tis jest to make old age ... look like a fool.
The body, it crumbles ... grace and vigor, depart.
There is now a stone ... where I once had a heart.

But inside this old carcass... A young guy still dwells,
And now and again ... my battered heart swells
I remember the joys ... I remember the pain.
And I'm loving and living ... life over again!

I think of the years ... all too few ... gone too fast.
And accept the stark fact ... that nothing can last.
So open your eyes, people ... open and see..
Not a crabby old man. Look closer ... see ... ME!!

Remember this poem when you next meet an older person who you might
brush aside without looking at the young soul within ... we will all,
one day, be there, too!

SPM period

Well ,this was the second week, the family was away in Langkawi and I was alone at home, missed them terribly. Why?? you might asked ,well guys I sacrificed my family life so that my daugther can be with her mum and sister for the whole of SPM examination period in Langkawi. After talking to her mum last night, I knew that I have made the correct decision.
It seem that one of her friends was spending the night at the apartment
for the night after reporting sick, and the mother (my daughter's friend's mother)
was worried sick and practically begging my wife to take her daughter in
to the apartment, I guess that can happen to my daughter also(and I too would have worried sick) if I did not agreed to have the family moved to Langkawi for the SPM examination duration. I missed them now....thank you god for the "rezeki" that you have bestowed on me.

10th November 2007 The BERSIH Gathering

What can I say, I was not there but after reading the blogsphere commentaries. El and Jeancumlately have summed up the gathering nicely........!

el // Nov 12th 2007 at 2:41 am

Kenapa ramai melayu…

senang saja nak menjawab…

Jeancumlately // Nov 12th 2007 at 10:11 am

Thank you el for saying it…

I dont usually agree with amrozi either but the truth hurts. I was in masjid jamek and looked at the people around me. Mostly malays… well, I would say more then 80%. And quietly I asked myself, where are those people who were screaming and complaining endlessly for being discriminated against, bla, bla, bla… Ironically, the very race they had belittled, criticized and made fun of were there to fight for everybody’s cause. Come on…

I guess, at the end of the day, its too much to risk the big house, the big screen tv, the big car and the big wife…

Monty, at your age, I respect you for walking your talk.

The Friday Sermon

I've just come back from the Friday's prayer at the Naval Base
Mosque. Its been a long time since I have been there, normally I would
have my friday's prayer done at the Teluk Mosque which was quite convenience for me in some days but not this friday as the traffic along the Daeng Selaili Road was jammed pack with cars. So I was quite surprised with the new set up that they have in the Naval Base Mosque. Hey..! they have large screen here too, mate.

And the title that I read on the big screen is " Ahlak Pemuda & Pemudi kita ".I did not really pay any attention to the screen as the imam was reading his sermon but at the corner of my eyes,I could not figured why my neighbor attention was riveted at the screen. So there it was ,as the Imam was reading the sermon on the the subject matter, they have the visual presentation on the big screen,...... so what come out when male and female came together out of wedlock, it should be a baby, no it's not in our society in our now so called Islam Hadhari society , its' the fetuses..... an unwanted fetuses,in the rubbish bin, garbage area,at the road side in a bag, you name it and they have it on the screen. I would thanks god that ,on this particular day they decided only to show the unwanted fetuses and not newly born ,alive and kicking innocent babies at the foot of the tree,at the door of houses and stair of the mosques and temples and they are the lucky ones. And also not to show the dead babies that were flushed through the toilets, thrown onto the streets and left at the rubbish dump for the dogs. What kind of youths that we have brought up today......................God forgive us.

Well I think our society have become so immune to that kind of gruesome scenery but what come next on the big screen really shook me to the core, what's happening to our world, our civilized world, the so called free world, it showed somewhere in the world ,those who practiced "one child policy" did to their unwanted aborted fetuses.......they MADE SOUP out of it , in one scene they showed a group of ten sharing a big bowl of fetuses soup and one was barbecued and presented on a plate at the table. Guys........, Guys........ a barbecued fetuses surrounded by the ten with ketchup, chily sauce, folk and knife and all just like we're having our barbecued lamb or pike on the table, without guilt showed in their faces ........................ ...........!.Okay in some society they will eat any thing... elephants, cats, rats ...... dogs and what have you, but this time it beyond explanation at least to me.... .............................................!

In the last scene, they showed how our Mat Rempit,in his glory, was found at the road side,in one scene they have his body sprawled on the road minus his head (shouldn't his legs go the other way), blood all over the body, then they showed his head in some bushes somewhere.

What intrigued me was that , shouldn't he in his pinnacle should died with a smile and big grin on his face (like our spaceman) or at least a Victory sign with his hand but instead in death his just protruded his tongue at you.

Month of October! Oh, what a month that was

What a month, October was!.First its the Hari raya celebration and you expected that but with the daughter coming back from the boarding school with her mulfunctioned digital camera and the the cost to repair it is almost 40% of the original value, if it were me, I would have declared it BER ( beyond economical repair) but when you see the daughter's forlorn face ,you just grit your teeth.

One hot night this October, the aircon broke down, the cost to replace the compressor was 50% of the cost value plus labour , I just shaked my head and called for a new aircon to be installed.

Suddenly, the old fateful washing machine decided to call the day yet another tragedy to my pocket.

One morning, I got a call from the service centre repairing my other daughter's Ipod, so I drove to the centre to pick up the Ipod , cost me nothing as it still under warranty but unfortunately it went kaput one day after and I decided to call it the day, as petrol is not water you know, she will have to make do with her other walkaman cassette player, her other compact disk player, the desk top computer and others etc etc.

Then the made in China VCD player went berserk and did not want to play anymore, just threw the thing out and got a new DVD player, yet another damage to my financial situation.

What's next , I hope nothing happen in the next few weeks ......God, please god.

Aidil Fitri

I guess,my children have a great time this Hari Raya , for me its just another day after the Ramadan month.

We started our journey on the 10th Oct. for the balik kampong,
quite early this year, first phase of the travel was to go down to
Malacca on Wednesday but stopped in KL to do our shopping. Yeah, its
last minute but this was due to my elder kid who is away at a boarding
school and can only joined the family as early as on Tuesday of the Hari Raya week. While the kids and mother too, have their fun, I could not find any Baju Melayu to my liking in KL.The carpets at Jalan Tengku Abdul Rahman stores were beutifully displayed and one caught my eyes.

Reached safely in Malacca and put up at the Klebang Beach apartment.Well as promised, treat my family to a Berbuka Puasa at the Legacy Hotel. On the way back to the apartment stopped at the Klebang Beach whereby, they have these "Gerais" selling everything that you need for the Hari Raya , kids and mother have their fun and daddy managed to find a nice Baju Melayu at a fractional cost compared to the one at Jalan Tengku Abdul Rahmans' shops, KL.

Morning the 11th Oct. drove down to J.B's Johore Jaya and put up at my sister in law place for the night and this had been our routine for the last years when we were to spent our Hari Raya Puasa in Singapore. After the berbuka, drove to the Immigration Complex to pick up my other sis in law from Singapore who liked to join us at J.B.

Noon the 12th Oct. after a shopping spree at the Giant in Johore Jaya, we proceed to Singapore, up to the brim with goods, if the Singapore's custom decided to have a 100% check on my car then I will have a headache. Thank god ,the man was in a good mood , he just waved me away as I were about to open my car boot.

The morning of the Hari Raya as usual we the male family of the household would go for our Hari Raya Prayer at the nearest mosque. After the prayer the whole family would then joined in for the breakfast of ketupat, lontong ,rendang , sambal udang or sotong, chicken curry and what not.The kids were all smiles now as the duit raya from daddy will be given. The Maaf bermaafan routine will be solemly carried out and guess what, I enjoyed it as I am the eldest around.

Is it me only?

Is it me only ? or are others too shared the same feeling of having no
ideas what to write. I guess not, if you see all the other blogs,
they're full of concerns, issues and news that are being brought out for
us to ponder.

Ponder we must and at the end of the day we must put our thoughts together and put right what's wrong. We should not just mulled over it and did not do anything. We must address our concerns, show and spread our displeasures through our friends and our our blogs, our collective communication system and lastly through the process of democracy.

Astronaut or Cannot

One of the reasons why our spaceman sheik is not being called an Astronaut or Cosmonaut. See the other crews experiences :

Experience by Peggy A. Whitson (Ph.D.)
NASA Astronaut

The Expedition-5 crew launched on June 5, 2002 aboard STS-111 and docked with the International Space Station on June 7, 2002. During her 6-month stay aboard the Space Station, Dr. Whitson installed the Mobile Base System, the S1 truss segment, and the P1 truss segment using the space station remote manipulator system, performed a 4 hour and 25 minute Orlan EVA to install micrometeoroid shielding on the Zvezda Service Module, and activated and checked out the Microgravity Sciences Glovebox, a facility class payload rack. She was named the first NASA Science Officer during her stay, and she conducted 21 investigations in human life sciences and microgravity sciences, as well as commercial payloads. The Expedition-5 crew (one American Astronaut and two Russian Cosmonauts) returned to Earth aboard STS-113 on Dec. 7, 2002. Completing her first flight, Dr. Whitson logged 184 days, 22 hours and 14 minutes in space.

Experience by YURI IVANOVICH MALENCHENKO
(COLONEL, RUSSIAN AIR FORCE)
TEST COSMONAUT AT THE YU.A. GAGARIN
COSMONAUT TRAINING CENTER

Malenchenko completed his first 126-day spaceflight in July 1 – Nov. 4, 1994 on the Soyuz TM-14 vehicle and the Mir station (Mir-16 mission). The mission included spaceflight of Ulf Merbold, an ESA astronaut as part of the EuroMir program. Malenchenko completed two spacewalks that lasted 11 hours and 7 minutes total. He performed the first manual docking of the Mir station with the Progress M-24 vehicle in the teleoperator mode. Since Oct. 1998 till Sept. 2000 Malenchenko trained at NASA for a Shuttle spaceflight (2A, later 2A.2B).
Malenchenko served on the crew of STS-106 preparing the International Space Station for the arrival of the first permanent crew. The five astronauts and two cosmonauts delivered more than 6,600 pounds of supplies and installed batteries, power converters, a toilet and a treadmill on the Space Station. Yuri Malenchenko and Ed Lu performed a 6 hour and 14 minute space walk in order to connect power, data and communications cables to the newly arrived Zvezda Service Module and the Space Station.
Since Jan. 2001 he trained as a commander of the ISS 7 prime crew. Malenchenko completed his third spaceflight (with NASA astronaut Ed Lu) as an ISS 7 crew and Soyuz TMA commander. The flight lasted from April 26 till Oct. 27, 2003, with a total duration of 185 days.
Since Nov. 2003 till Sept. 2005 Malenchenko trained with a group of test-cosmonauts.
Since Oct. 2005 till Oct. 2006 he trained as a flight engineer of the ISS 14 crew and Soyuz commander.
In Oct. 2006 he started training as an ISS 16 crew flight engineer and Soyuz commander that is scheduled to launch to the ISS in Oct. 2007.

Experience by Daniel M. Tani
NASA Astronaut

STS-108 Endeavour (December 5-17, 2001) was the 12th shuttle flight to visit the International Space Station. During the mission Tani served as MS-2. Endeavour’s crew delivered the Expedition-4 crew and returned the Expedition-3 crew. The crew unloaded over 3 tons of supplies, logistics and science experiments from the Raffaello Multi-Purpose Logistics Module. Tani performed a space walk to wrap thermal blankets around ISS Solar Array Gimbals. STS-108 was accomplished in 185 Earth orbits, traveling 4.8 million miles in 283 hours and 36 minutes, including an EVA of 4 hours and 12 minutes.
Experience by LÉOPOLD EYHARTS (General, French Air Force)
ESA Astronaut (Mission Specialist)

In August 1998, Léopold Eyharts was assigned by the European Space Agency to train at NASA’s Johnson Space Center in Houston, Texas. As part of the international astronauts of the 1998 class, he attended Astronaut Candidate Training which included orientation briefings and tours, numerous scientific and technical briefings, intensive instruction in Shuttle and International Space Station systems, physiological training and ground school to prepare for T-38 flight training, as well as learning water and wilderness survival techniques. Initially assigned to the Astronaut Office Space Station Operations Branch. Léopold Eyharts' assignments include serving as a flight engineer to the Expedition-12 and Expedition-13 back-up crews.

Experience by Garrett E. Reisman (Ph.D.)
NASA Astronaut (Mission Specialist)

Selected by NASA in June 1998, Dr. Reisman reported for training in August 1998. Astronaut Candidate Training included orientation briefings and tours, numerous scientific and technical briefings, intensive instruction in Shuttle and International Space Station systems, physiological training and ground school to prepare for T-38 flight training, as well as learning water and wilderness survival techniques.
After completing this training, Dr. Reisman was assigned to the Astronaut Office Robotics Branch where he worked primarily on the Space Station robotic arm.
In October 2001, Dr. Reisman was assigned to the Astronaut Office Advanced Vehicles Branch where he worked on the displays and checklists to be used in the next generation Space Shuttle cockpit.
In June 2003, Dr. Reisman was a crewmember on NEEMO V, living on the bottom of the sea in the Aquarius habitat for two weeks.
Dr. Reisman is currently training for a future long-duration mission on the International Space Station

And our Hero.....the man......

Experience by Spaceflight Participant Sheikh Muszaphar Shukor

Born in Kuala Lumpur, Dr. Sheikh Muszaphar obtained his high school education at Maktab Rendah Sains MARA in Muar. He then pursued his MBBS medical degree at Kasturba Medical College, Manipal.(Yoi! where is this country)
Dr. Sheikh Muszaphar is an orthopaedic doctor and a trainee lecturer in medicine with Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia. Previously, he has served in Hospital Seremban (1998), Kuala Lumpur General Hospital (1999) and Hospital Selayang (2000-2001)

Just for you, modern kids, to know

From a friend:

TO ALL THOSE WHO WERE BORN IN THE

40's and 50's/ early 60's

First, we survived with mothers who had no maids. They cooked /cleaned while taking care of us at the same time.

They took aspirin, candy floss, fizzy drinks, shaved ice with syrup and diabetes was rare. Salt added to Pepsi or Coke was remedy for fever.

We had no childproof lids on medicine bottles, doors or cabinets and when we rode our bikes, we had no helmets.

As children, we would ride with our parents on bicycles/ motorcycles for 2 or 3. Richer ones in cars with no seat belts or air bags.

Riding in the back of a private taxi was a special treat.

We drank water from the tap and NOT from a bottle.

We would spend hours on the fields under bright sunlight flying our kites, without worrying aboutUV rays which never seem to affect us. We go into the jungle to catch spiders without worries of Aedes mosquitoes.

With mere 5 pebbles (stones) would be a endless game. With a ball (tennis ball best) we boys would run like crazy for hours.

We caught guppy in drains / canals and when it rained we swam there.

We shared one soft drink with four friends, from one bottle and NO ONE actually worry about being unhygienic.

We ate salty, very sweet & oily food, candies, bread and real butter and drank very sweet soft drinks, sweet coffee/ tea, ice kachang, but we weren't overweight because.....
.
WE WERE ALWAYS OUTSIDE PLAYING!!

We would leave home in the morning and play all day, till streetlights came on.
No one was able to reach us all day. And we were O.K.

We would spend hours repairing our old bicycles and wooden scooters out of scraps and then ride down the hill, only to find out we forgot the brakes. After running into the bushes a few times, we learned to solve the problem .

We did not have Playstations, Nintendo's,X-boxes, multiple channels on cable TV, DVD movies, no surround sound, no phones, no personal computers, no Internet.WE HAD FRIENDS and we went outside and found them!

We fell out of trees, got cut, broke bones and teeth and we still continued the stunts.

We never had birthday parties till we were 21,

We rode bikes or walked to a friend's house and just yelled for them!

The idea of a parent bailing us out if we broke the law was unheard of. They actually sided with the law!

Yet this generation has produced some of the best risk-takers, problem solvers and inventors ever!

The past 40 years have been an explosion of innovation and new ideas.

We had freedom, failure, success and responsibility, and we learned

HOW TO DEAL WITH IT ALL!

And YOU are one of them!

CONGRATULATIONS!

To give and be forgiven

Yes its Ramadan month, the month that we are supposed to give and to forgive.
To give but there is time that you do not know who is to be chosen, shall it be the neighbor further down the road who could not pay her rent and live without electricity for the last six months because of the husband who is totally useless or the single mother with six children’s who barely manage to scrap some food for her children but at least they have electricity and water. Or could it be the single lady who’s live by herself at a rented house, because the foster parent have decided that they did not need her anymore as all their children have grown up. Or shall it be the neighbor’s wife who always trying to borrow some money from you and others but do not bother to pay back. Or shall I just ignore their plight, no I know I should't but alas who........

To forgive but alas I am just a human being ,I have my reservation, I have my anxiety toward my fellows human being. Shall I forgive the relative who swindled away my money for the monthly car payment till the car was repossessed, yes I trusted him then because I was young and he's my close relative for crying out loud.. Do I forgive the neighbor who spread the word that one of my family member have Hepatitis "B" and thus the neighborhood should avoid us like a leper?. Shall I forgive them all .......

Merdeka! Merdeka!

Did you saw the other day on the box, our sis Rafidah Aziz was closed to shed a crocodile tear when she told the reporters that she found a pen that contained no ink hence cannot be used but it was bought by her department using the raayat money.
We must be proud of our bro Senator Mohamad Mohamad Taib for he would willingly sacrificed himself to be bombed and stoned in the defend of our Tanah Melayu Sultanate. We should tip our hat off to Bro Najib for declaring that only 14 death of the ordinary raayats'sons had occurred since the start of PLKN and not 20 as reported.
And saluted Sami Valu for his expertise in Technical Engineering as he rightly pointed out that the cause of another leaks at the Parliment house was due to rubbish being strewn on the roof.RUBBISH!!!!!!

Oh! What a night.

Cor, yes what a night it was , there they were all the friends that I knew for the last thirty years, some are still the same in body size, I mean. But they are still the same old noisy friends that I knew all this while; Jamil(Sami),Nordin(AMS), Harry Othman, Wan (the moderator), Mohtar, Halim(Penang mari), Bone Sulaiman, Bob Malik, Din Sontot, Amirudo,Mustafa (Macgyver),Azhar, Manan,TJ the host, Herman,Ziggy,Teoh,Isa , Ghazali (Baba), Shaid Mahfus, Lee Bandit, Pak Cik Kamal etc.
Yes, we were noisy but other patrons seem to tolerate our noises. It's really good to see them and to hear from them again. I hope we will always be like this for all times.

Merdeka

What's Merdeka to me. Heem, I don't know´?
1963 ,KL was a far far away city from my royal town, only the rich can go to KL. The only shout of Merdeka! Merdeka !can only be heard from the radio and if the radio run out of baterries then you went to sleep early at 9.00 pm to save fuel from our gasoline lamp.

1973,KL was just a 6 hours train ride away from my royal town, only the rich can travel first class. And the Merdeka celebration can be seen on TV, only the rich can have coloured TV . And if there was a black out, you can played guitar with your friends by the road side.

1983, KL was just a 4 hours of bus ride from my royal town.Only the rich travelled by car .I can joined the Merdeka celebration after a break at Pudu Station for my trip to Temasek.

1993, KL was just a 3 hours ride in a proton car from my royal town. Only the rich can bought Toyota. I can joined the Merdeka festivities at the stroke of 12.00 and went to sleep in the wee bit of the morning in China Town hotel.

2003, KL was just a 2 hours ride in a Toyota car from my royal town.Only the rich can have a Mercedes. I enjoyed the festivities spirit with the family in a hotel at the Putra.

2013, KL is just KL, its two hours ride from Temasek, JB what JB?, it is Kuan Yew City . Merdeka is celebrated on the 10th of Aug.

Class Monitor

Guys, Its that time of the day again.Yes its the time to elect or select a Class Monitor. Did I said selected?.

I can't remember now whether the Class Monitor, during my primary school
days, were selected or elected. But what I did remembered, it was a tough
fight among us all. Weeks before the big day, we would jostled for a
place to be shortlisted. Our class teacher would be the man or woman
that held the power, It was him or she that we must impressed.

The criteria for the position:

a. Leadership : He must be popular, the guiding beacon for all of us to follow,
upright,pre-eminent in his studies.
b. Cleanliness : No sloppiness always smart in appearance, clean from money
politics, no back stabbing cause the blood would dirtied the floor
oops sorry but that's another story.
c. Friendliness : Must be fair to all, well disposed and kindly.

d. Trustworthy : Reliable and able to carry out the responsibilities

Oh well... all the qualities that I've mentioned, wish I could said that
of our so called leaders now..! Wait a minute aren't those were only for the class monitor, what about the prefect?.OK I will save that story for another
day.

Punishment

During my primary school days, I had always regard one of my Bahasa Melayu teacher as a man whom I admired and respected. He had this flair when he taught us our very own Bahasa Melayu.

Until one day,I could not fathom the reason why, but he did caned me
and others ,and the excruciating pain that ran through my body, could still be remembered to this day.

It left me dumbstruck and utterly rebellious with the punishment that was melted to us
for the small mistake that we had done. But it was at the time when you would never get any support from anybody, not even your parent. It was a heaven for sadist then.

But today all hell will break loose.

Nostalgia

Did you ever remembered your first day at school. Yeah, that can of memory keep on flashing through my mind lately.

Fortunately, I can vaguely visualise the scene, yes I do. There I were, at my tiny table ,holding it tightly so as not to let it go,that's because another boy, besides me, wanted to reallocate himself at the very place I sat. The teacher was no where to be seen ,he was rocking my chair hard and I were shouting my head off then suddenly everything were quiet and there he was, I saw my father was outside the class room at the corridor waving a warning finger at my neighbour. After a while when we all had settled down, the boy asked "who is the Chinese man" and I said "No he is not he is my father".
